Internship – Analyst
Whilst undertaking this period of work experience, I worked predominantly in the leisure sector alongside analysts gaining an understanding of how and why certain equities might be predicted to rise or fall. I also worked alongside traders, the sales team and in operations. Working with the equity traders, I was able to understand why they invested in certain stocks and I was taught about risk management, minimising risk by hedging one stock against another. I enjoyed working within the leisure sector but also have a keen interest in banks from personal trading and my degree. Whilst working here I was responsible for data input and evaluating and estimating potential for share price. I attended 10 analyst meetings after annual reports, gaining a better knowledge of the companies I worked on.

Work experience - Quantity surveyor
For work experience I undertook a month working with a Quantity Surveyor in Bangkok, Thailand with K-Tech. The company is a contracting firm building top end Hotels, Office Towers and various types of accommodation. Projects undertaken involved pricing of variations to the work, checking the values and costs of all elements (materials, equipment and labour) in order to maximize profitability. I also learned how to value the works (for payments in from client and out to Sub-contractors) done to date using bills of quantities in order to maintain neutral cash flow.

As a global broadcaster I have been responsible for the accurate production and broadcasting of corporate action events to the IFS client base. Within this role I have had the use of BANCS and GCS whilst having exposure to Bloomberg. The role requires accuracy and efficiency, broadcasting corporate events in a timely manner working towards internal cut off times. Understanding corporate actions and their effects has aided towards my development of knowledge and understanding of the markets.
